Residency FAQs
What should I bring to the residency?
Please bring everything you need for your work (laptop, notebooks, art supplies etc). Spring and fall in the mountains can get chilly, so come prepared with warm clothes. Summers are hot, bring a bathing suit! You may also want to bring clothes and footwear for hiking and being outdoors. Bring all of your own toiletries and personal items. Bug spray, sunscreen, and any other woodland necessities should be packed in with you!
What are the accommodations like?
Bedrooms are comfortable but nothing fancy. There are two shared baths, as well as one room with a private bathroom. The retreat has a small staff, and residents will be responsible for keeping the building and grounds in order. Everyone will clear the table after meals, keep the meeting areas clean, and turn off the lights at night. We ask residents to view themselves as community members, not as guests. Internet is available, as well as (spotty) cell service. The town of Wilkesboro is a 15 minute drive down the mountain.
Are meals provided?
The residency will prepare and serve dinners. Breakfast foods will be provided for residents to prepare. Lunch foods provided including delicious leftovers from the previous dinner. Some snacks will be provided, but personal snacks can be purchased on one of our group grocery outings. If you have an allergy, alert us of your needs and we’ll work to meet them.
What are the costs?
Your attendance fees cover all lodging and food costs. Travel costs are not covered by the residency.
How do I get to the residency?
If driving, we will send directions upon confirmation of your attendance.. If flying in (Greensboro only) we will help to coordinate a shared Uber (≈$150-$200) or, if possible, bring you to the residency ourselves for a fee of $50/person.
